Are painters liable for damage they cause to your home?
My mom hired painters to paint several rooms in our house. When I got home, I noticed that they scratched, dented, and put a hole in our hardwood floors while moving things. What should I do?

Yes - subcontractors or painters and etc. should have insurance to cover this, if not you will have go after them personally. Call the painters tell them what you found and don't waste time, most complaints have to be filed within 48 hours. Don't let this go, take pictures, get estimates, be the one that is prepared. Mostly be bullheaded.

Answer 2
Any person who you contract to do repairs in your home is liable for any damage they do. So Yes, a painter is liable...bill him for the cleaning, replacement or whatever and if they fail to reimburse you, file a small claim against them in court. Also notify your better business bureau, of the name or the person and the company they belong to, they might try on your behalf to get the company to pay up, because if they dont they get black listed by the city BBB.
