How do I stop my laptop from overheating and shutting off? I have a 2006 acer aspire 5100 and recently it seems to be overheating and shutting off while only running a couple of applications, and in general is really slowing down. I have ran virus scans and it doesn't find anything, but it is annoying when I am working on something and it shuts off, even when I have it on a desk with room to vent. Any suggestions, thanks! If you cant cope with opening it up you could try gently vacuuming it from the outside also use a brush to dislodge dust. Don't do it to close to your keyboard or you may suck of some keys. If you do just gently put them back on. you could consider a laptop cooling pad or talk 2 the people you brought it from if its still under warranty. http://computers.shop.ebay.com/items/Laptop-Cooling-Pads__W0QQ_catrefZ1QQ_flnZ1QQ_sacatZ96915QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em282 All Answers Answer 1 Take it apart, dust out the heatsinks using compressed air. Reassemble. 2009-03-14 21:00:57 Answer 2 get a cooler stand... that runs off usb that forces air in through the laptop. I had the same problem. Did the above as well, and I could see no excessive dust at all (blocking access to vents). What did it for me was buying a 20 dollar laptop cooling pad--an Antec. Its worked fine for several months now. 2009-03-14 21:03:17 Answer 7 yep as the last answer suggests cleaning it. Buy a lap top cooling pad with fans, I use one and they work great. Hope this helps 2009-03-14 21:13:20 Answer 9 Yeh, you need aeration. Either clean it out or just try to aerate it by placing bottle caps under the 4 corners. I find the aeration way keeps my laptop cool. 2009-03-14 21:14:05 Answer 10 Clean out all the vents, and get a laptop cooling mat. 2009-03-14 21:20:28 Answer 11 This happens to my brother's old Dell laptop. Here's my two cents: - Don't use it for prolonged periods of time. - Run as less programs as you can. - direct a fan at it (that's what he did in summer) for some external cooling. - Or, just save yourself the trouble, and buy a new acer from Walmart - will be relatively cheap too ^^". 2009-03-14 21:43:22 |
